Alpha-Arbutin

Whether it's sourced from plants or made synthetically, alpha arbutin is formed by combining hydroquinone with the alpha form of glucose, a type of sugar molecule. In skincare, it's used to brighten skin, fade discoloration, and promote a more even complexion, largely by limiting the activity of tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin production. Less excess melanin means less visible surface discoloration. It also functions as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals and supporting skin's own natural defenses against oxidative stress.
